  • 802.11a: With data transfer rates up to 54Mbps,it is faster than 802.11b and can support more simultaneousconnections. Because it operates in a more regulated frequency, itgets less signal interference from other devices and is considered tobe better at maintaining connections. In areas with major radiointerference (e.g., airports, business call centers), 802.11a willoutperform 802.11b. It has the shortest range of the three standards(generally around 60 to 100 feet), broadcasts in the 5GHz frequency,and is less able to penetrate physical barriers, such as walls.

  • 802.11b: It supports data transfer speeds up to11Mbps. It's better than 802.11a at penetrating physical barriers, butdoesn't support as many simultaneous connections. It has better rangethan 802.11a (up to 300 feet in ideal circumstances; tests byindependent reviewers commonly achieve between 70 and 150 feet), anduses hardware that tends to be less expensive. It's more susceptibleto interference, because it operates on the same frequency (2.4GHz) asmany cordless phones and other appliances. Therefore, it's notconsidered a good technology for applications that require absolutelyreliable connections, such as live video streaming.

  • 802.11g: It's faster than 802.11b, supportingdata transfer rates up to 54Mbps. It has a slightly shorter range than802.11b, but still better than 802.11a. Most independent reviewsreport around 65 to 120 feet in real-world situations. It isbackward-compatible with 802.11b products, but will run only at802.11b speeds when operating with them. It uses the 2.4GHz frequency,so it has the same problems with interference as 802.11b.


나름 정리


● 11b는 11a보다 빠르지만, 11a의 경우는 전파 간섭을 덜 받아서 connection을 유지하기 좋다.
● 11b가 11a보다 넓은 범위를 감당할 수 있다.
● 11b의 경우, 기존의 무선전화(핸드폰?)와 같은 주파수대를 사용하므로 간섭이 있을 수 있다.
● 11g는 11b보다 빠르다. 11a보다 넓고 11b보다 좁은 범위를 커버한다.11b와 같은 전파 간섭 문제를 가지고 있다.
